Hi! Like many of you, I have been making masks to donate to local health clinics and for family and friends. I have been making the masks using the YouTube tutorial I shared a few weeks ago. While making them using this method, I have come up with a few modifications based on feedback from those I am making them for. I will share those below, along with a mini tutorial video of mine showing you the modifications.
So let’s start. I recommend making the mask as shown in the original tutorial up until it’s time to put on the side binding and elastic. That’s where my modifications come in. But since you are making the mask with my modifications use the supply list below and not the one in the video:
1 rectangle of fabric 7 1/2 x 15″
2 strips of fabric 1 1/2 x 17″ – this is my modification
1 piece of elastic 9 1/2″ long (I use 1/4″ elastic)
1 piece of wire 6 1/2″ long (I use 24 gauge)

Use the original mask video to make the mask body.
Here’s what it will look like up to the point before adding the binding on the sides:

Now, switch to my mini tutorial for the modifications to make the binding that creates ties on the bottom and secures an elastic across the top. Here’s my finishing tutorial video:
And here’s how my masks look as opposed to the ones in the original video:

My modification in no way implies that the original video with their instructions are wrong in anyway. Those masks come out great and are a great version. I just decided to modify the sides based on my personal experiences with the masks as made from their instructions.
So, now you can be a mask making queen (or king)! I hope this little tutorial on my modification has been helpful!
Happy Stitching!
