Hello!
Yes… I know! I was supposed to post my next feature on my new patterns on Wednesday. But, I was on the road teaching and lecturing so I thought you might forgive me!
Have you ever wondered about the history of the snowball block? It’s such a fun, simple block that adds dimension to a quilt whether it’s the only block in the quilt or it’s combined with other blocks. It is one of those blocks that creates an optical illusion when you look at the quilt it’s in. If you stand back, they look like circles! Here’s the snowball blocks in my new pattern:
Did you know that this is an Amish quilt block? Until I did a little research, I had no idea either! It is a traditional block of theirs that can be found in many quilts, Amish or not, from the 19th century.
Believe it or not, my table runners were inspired by this quilt:
It can be found in this beautiful book called The American Quilt: A History of Cloth and Comfort 1750-1950.
So here’s my pattern! It’s called Carnival Time and has two unique table runner patterns that use the Snowball quilt block.
I’m going to offer a give-away for my two new patterns that have been featured here so far. Share you favorite quilt block in the comments below and I will pick a winner next Wednesday, 9/27/17, before I post my next feature!
**Update: We have a winner!** Congrats to Lewcrese S.!
